The 2966 Engineer – A truly iconic Red Wing style. Back in 1936, the Red Wing Shoe Company presented its first Engineer boot. At that time still conceived for equestrian sports and hunting, a large following of “Engineers”, mostly from the railroad industry, quickly gathered around this model. Hence the name. Younger folks then, especially motorcycle enthusiasts in the 1950s, quickly became aware of this style and the popularity of the Engineer grew rapidly during that time.
Today, this model is still worn and claimed by fans of motorized two-wheelers and “rugged guys” alike.
With the 2966 Engineer, we now carry a more than authentic boot that is historically based on the 1950s and 1960s versions. The used Black Klondike leather is no stranger to Red Wing fans and impresses with its “tea-core” tanning, which features a brown base color with a black finish. Over the years, a unique patina will develop, when the black layer will wear off & the brown base will shine through. The flat toe box is based on the models of the aforementioned 50s and 60s. The Neoprene Cord sole, which has been used for more than 60 years, ensures a firm footing and is also oil-resistant. The 2966 is visually rounded off by its “stacked heel” and the “curve”. This is a heel construction that is slightly slanted and has a contrasting color insert. Last, but not least, there is the special vintage-inspired label in the leg and the “RED WING” embossing on the outside of the leg, which is also reminiscent of the 1950s.
IMPORTANT INFO: We recommend sizing up a half size from your regular Red Wing shoe size.
